Mission Statement

The mission and objectives of Samutthāna is encapsulated in the following section. All individuals and organisations who wish to work Samutthāna are required to sign a declaration agreeing to these principles and objectives and expected to adhere to them.

Samutthana The Kings College Resource centre for Trauma and Displacement is a non political and non profit organisation. The objectives of this organisation are to:-

1 Maintain a resource centre for Trauma Displacement, and Mental Health.
2 Engage in training activities to develop and enhance the skills of Sri Lankan individuals, both professionals and otherwise to deal with the psychological impact of traumatic events, displacement and mental health issues in general
3 Contribute to the development of an infrastructure in Sri Lanka to effectively deal with disaster situations.
4 Work towards enhancing the skills base of Sri Lankans to deal with mental health problems in both children and adults
5 Work towards developing a supervision infrastructure in Sri Lanka to maintain skills and to enhance the quality of psychological work.
6 Do research work in the areas of Trauma, Displacement and Mental Health in accordance with international ethical standards and ethical frameworks in Sri Lanka.
7 Contribute to policy development in the areas of Trauma, Displacement and Mental Health.
8 Contribute to peace and reconciliation work in relation to the civil conflict in Sri Lanka. :

Samutthana will strive to meet these objectives through collaboration with partners in the field in Sri Lanka and overseas.

As Samutthana is a non political and non partisan organisation it is committed to working in a manner that develops confidence and trust and therefore will :-

1 Seek to ensure that all who work with Samutthana are treated with respect irrespective of their ethnicity, language race, religion, gender.
2 Not discriminate on the basis of ethnicity, language, race, religion, gender
3 Not participate in activities which actively discriminate against any groups on the basis of ethnicity, language, race, religion, gender
4 Not accept support in terms of funding or other support from organisations which apply limits to the use of funds/support offered on the basis of ethnicity, language, race, religion, gender
5 Establish appropriate mechanisms to monitor and ensure that these principles are respected
