Objectives
of Samutthana?
To provide a long term mecha
mechanisms for increasing the capacity of Sri Lankan mental health care
provision, through co-ordination and support to NGOs, mental health professionals
and other parties, and training to increase the ability to respond to
the needs of tsunami survivors and future trauma.
To deliver supervision and professional support for people and organisations
working with people affected by the tsunami to ensure quality of trauma
work being delivered, and to enable evaluation and learning through networking,
conferences, and workshops.
To lobby governments and other institutions to resettle tsunami affected
individuals, families and communities in a manner that guarantees secure,
equitable and sustainable methodology and creates an environment conducive
to trauma recovery.
To contribute and knowledge and theory building about the psychosocial
response and resettlement process and the social, economic, cultural,
and political impacts of large-scale natural disasters.
